Support Puerto Rican Literature! Festival de la Palabra of Puerto Rico will be making a stop in NYC from October 9-11

Festival de la Palabra of Puerto Rico will be making a stop in NYC from October 9-11, when Puerto Rican writers will host a contingent of international ones from Latin America, Europe and beyond. These two events taking place at the King Juan Carlos Center at NYU on Wednesday, October 10th should be of particular interest to Nuyorican poetas and salseros.

On Wednesday, October 10th, the riveting Nuyorican poetess Nancy Mercado will be joined by salsa musician biographer and Puerto Rican journalist Juan Moreno-Velázquez, whose next book is a biography based of the life of salsero Johnny Pacheco of Fania All Stars fame. They’ll be joined by writer Charlie Vázquez and Cuban poet and painter Orlando Ferrand for a discussion about the ties that bind popular culture, words and music.

That will be followed by a poetry and short narrative reading featuring the Puerto Rican writer and literary agent Awilda Cáez, Luis Negrón, another writer from Puerto Rico whose most recent book “Mundo cruel” will be released in English in the US in 2013, in addition to visiting Mexican writers and journalists Rosa Beltrán and Jorge Volpi.

These events are free and available to the general public.
